Armatherm selected to provide thermal breaks for Riyadh bus station

Thermal break manufacturer, Armatherm, has been selected to supply thermal break solutions for the new Riyadh bus station, designed by Pritzker Architecture prize winner, Dame Zaha Hadid DBE RA.

Commissioned by the ArRiyadh Development Authority, the 45,000 sqm station is designed to meet the increasing number of residents in the city of Riyadh.

Armatherm provided thermal breaks and thermal washers for the project to thermally isolate the new building, assisting with the energy efficiency of the structure. Manufactured with extremely low thermal conductivity qualities, the Armatherm GF material also boasts high compressive strength and has been featured in hundreds of steel framing connections.

With six platforms over four levels and park-and-ride facilities, the station will be a multimodal transport centre and new public space for the city. The energy demand in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has increased steadily with an average annual increase close to 5% since 2010. This is partially linked to the economic growth, but also suggests an inefficient use of resources – putting additional pressure on new buildings to be as efficient as possible.

With the AIC Steel team requiring the materials quickly to finalise the project, Armatherm supplied a large quantity of the products within a limited amount of time.
