Armatherm™ 500 Structural Thermal Break Material

(Thermal Insulation Material – TIM)

Limiting heat movement inside a building’s thermal envelope lowers energy use and also lowers the risk of condensation problems. Thermal bridging in building envelope connections is greatly lessened using ArmathermTM 500 thermal break material (TIM).

A high strength, thermoset polyurethane that is produced in a variety of densities is ArmathermTM 500 structural thermal break material.

High loads can be supported using ArmathermTM 500 thermal break material, which is available in four grades of material with varying compressive strength capabilities.

Due to their closed cell construction, the ArmathermTM 500 thermal insulation blocks do not absorb water and have very little creep under load. As a result, there is less energy lost through thermal bridging within building exterior connections. Therefore, heat movement, energy use, and potentially hazardous condensation problems are all reduced.

ArmathermTM 500 is offered in the following thicknesses: 5mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 50mm. To reach the appropriate U value and thickness parameters, the high strength polyurethane material sheets can be easily laminated. It can be used everywhere there is a penetration or transition exit through the building envelope and as it is incredibly dynamic. Where a thermal bridge exists, it is simply cut and drilled on the spot if necessary. The most popular specs are Armatherm TM500-320 and Armatherm TM500-490.

ArmathermTM 500 is a great option for cold storage facilities to keep the subgrade from freezing, as well as for preventing thermal bridging in buildings to reduce heat loss. ArmathermTM 500 is positioned beneath the base of the column to prevent the transfer of cold temperatures into the ground, which is important for the storage of frozen foods.

Applications using Armatherm™ 500 to reduce heat flow include:

Armatherm™ 500 – Parapet Roof Penetration Thermal Bridging Solution

As they need structural framing for support, places like roof to wall junctions and parapets require thermal bridging. The R value can be increased by as much as 30% by adding thermal break materials behind the parapet that connects the facade and roof insulation. A thermal break can also be constructed inside the building envelope at roof penetration places where structural elements are supported.

Armatherm™ 500 – Column Base Thermal Bridging Solution (load dependent)

In a conventional building, slab insulation is placed at the base of columns that run the length of the building envelope. A thermal break can be used to avoid cold bridges. Armatherm 500 is the ideal option for load supporting thermal break requirements because of its low creep under load and strong strength.

Armatherm™ 500 – Foundation Wall Thermal Bridging Solution (load dependent)

The foundations of a building and the transition from a slab on grade to a foundation wall are other locations where thermal bridges may form. An ArmathermTM 500 series thermal insulation block, which supports extraordinarily high loads of up to 300N/mm2, can significantly reduce energy loss.
