Armatherm™ Thermal Break Washers & Screws
Installing thermal breaks is crucial for achieving optimal energy efficiency, but it is equally important to consider the fixings used to secure them. Even when a connection is fully thermally isolated, such as with a Z Girt, the attachments themselves can compromise performance, creating a pathway for heat to escape through the screws. Using Armatherm™ washers transforms standard screws into thermal break screws, ensuring the connection remains as thermally isolated as possible with no risk of bridging. A thermal break should be placed at the front of the bolt head, between the steel washer and the exterior steel surface, to minimize potential energy loss.
As the U.S. aims to reduce carbon emissions by 2030, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and selecting long-lasting materials is vital. Armatherm™ is continually innovating, developing products to meet the demands of energy-efficient construction. Incorporating thermal breaks can boost building efficiency by up to 70 percent, leading to lower operating costs and preventing cold spots where condensation and mold might develop.
Improve Efficiency by up to 70%
Our expert team is available to answer questions or provide guidance on thermal break solutions. From the earliest project stages, we can help specify the products best suited to meet energy-saving requirements and ensure compliance with essential building regulations. We are committed to offering the construction industry effective solutions that safeguard the future of energy-efficient building practices.
Armatherm™ thermal break washers and bushings can be installed on the warm face of a structure. Adding a thermal break at the bolt connection can further reduce heat loss by approximately 4 percent per bolt, depending on the wall assembly. Without these solutions, condensation on bolt heads can lead to dampness and mold growth. To prevent this, polyurethane nut and bolt caps can be supplied, effectively isolating the cold exterior surface from the warmer internal environment. Polyurethane’s chemical composition makes it an excellent insulator, blocking energy transfer and preventing heat loss through conductive penetrations such as steel bolts and fixings.
